Corporate Worship

“Corporate worship is a regular gracious reminder that it's not about you. You've been born into a life that is a celebration of another.” (Paul David Tripp)

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
— Colossians 3:16–17

The Worship Gathering

Calvary Baptist Church gathers on Sunday mornings at 11:00am to worship God through preaching, singing, observing the Lord’s Supper, praying, and giving.

Our prayer is that we would be found faithful as “a people of the Book.” We keep the Scriptures at the center of everything we do at our church, especially the corporate worship gathering. We read the Scriptures, preach expository sermons straight from the Scriptures, and sing songs that are rooted in the truth of the Scriptures.

We gather around the Word

We gather around the table

Jesus commanded His disciples to regularly remember and proclaim the gospel through the Lord’s Supper (Luke 22:19). There’s no higher privilege and there’s no deeper worship experience than to obey Jesus’ command and together commune with Him at the Table. We gather at the Table at least once per month.

We believe worship music ought to exalt Christ through truth and beauty. We intentionally choose God-centered and doctrinally sound songs from faithful songwriters. Tony Merida says, “Music is portable theology.” Because this is true and we take song lyrics with us as we go about our daily life, we take great care in choosing the songs and lyrics we sing.

Music and Singing

One of the ways we worship God is through music. Our worship services feature an instrumentalist or two and a few singers, whose role is to lead us to sing heartily to God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

We sing many different types of songs, including hymns and contemporary songs. Substance and depth matter more to us than style or genre. Look below for a playlist of songs we sing often at Calvary.

What to Expect

What should I wear?

You should wear whatever makes you feel comfortable. There is no dress code at Calvary and you won’t be judged for your fashion choices. A lot of our folks dress casually, but some like to dress up on occasion.

Will I be pressured to give?

Nope, we’re just glad you’re here! We don’t expect our guests to give anything. If you feel compelled to give, there’s a red collection box at the back of the Auditorium, so you can discreetly drop a gift inside on your way out if you’d like.

What is the music like?

We love any songs that tell the story of the gospel of Jesus. We value depth in lyrics and beauty in art. Thus, we sing both ancient and contemporary songs. On a normal Sunday, you’ll see an acoustic guitar player or pianist with a few singers on stage.

Can I watch your services online?

We encourage you to come in person, because there’s something special about the faith family gathered in person to worship God. But we do livestream our services for the benefit of those who are unable to worship with us in person. You can watch them on our Facebook page.

How long does the worship service last?

Our worship services normally last around 75 minutes.

What is the preaching like?

We believe “nothing is better for God’s people than God’s Word.” So, we value expository preaching. That means we normally preach through books of the Bible. Occasionally, we’ll study a topic or theme from Scripture for a short season, but we always do so in an expository fashion.

How often do you observe the Lord’s Supper? Who can participate?

We take communion together once a month, normally following the sermon. We encourage families to participate together as a way of reflecting on God’s Word. We practice open communion, meaning that all baptized followers of Jesus are welcome to join us in communion. If you are not a believer, we urge you to skip the table and take the Savior instead!

What do you offer for children?

We offer Sunday School for children of all ages at 9:45am and we offer nursery for infants and toddlers during the 11:00am worship service. We invite our older kids (5 years and up) to join us for worship.
